Born in the Rocky Mountains, cured by time and pressure. At Rise Beyond Fly Fishing, we are your premier online destination for fly fishing knowledge and resources in Colorado. Our mission is to equip you with the tools and expertise to confidently traverse the beautiful Colorado waters. Tread lightly, pack out your shit, and leave it better than it was without changing how it's supposed to be. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.
Fly fishing is not just a sport; it's a way of connecting deeply with nature. We believe that with the privilege of exploring these pristine waters comes a duty of stewardship and conservation. We encourage every angler to tread lightly, respecting the delicate ecosystems that make Colorado's rivers and streams so special. It means more than just catching fish; it’s about immersing yourself in the environment and leaving it better than you found it.
We advocate for the philosophy that conservation starts with individual responsibility. Whether it’s picking up trash, respecting wildlife, or practicing catch-and-release, each action contributes to preserving our natural resources for future generations. Fly fishing offers us a chance to engage in an ancient and beloved tradition, and it’s up to us to ensure that tradition continues for those who come after.

4th Generation Colorado Angler.
I grew up steps from the Colorado River and minutes from the Eagle, Roaring Fork, Frying Pan, and Gunnison Rivers. Foam is home for me. Dad had me tying his flies for him by age 6, and I was driving his drift boat at 12.

Born and raised on the trout streams of Colorado.
My Dad taught me that fishing isn't about catching fish. I've lived by that my entire life, in and out of the water. I love trying flies as much as getting hooked up with a toady brown. Creativity is my profession and fly tying affords me another outlet that isn't work.

Midwestern angler - will travel for hookups.
I started out as a trout guy and honed my skills on the Driftless, known for tight technical streams requiring stealthy approaches. I first held a fly rod in my mid-thirties on the Umpqua and have been hooked ever since. I'm currently making up for lost fly time with my wife and friends on the waters of Wisconsin.

Florida man trapped in a Colorado mountain man's skin.
Some live to fish, but I also fish to live. I grew up in Southern Florida but came into a new world of fishing and outdoors after moving to Colorado. I am a professional fisherman and Wagyu cattle rancher (in my part-time). In my free time, I mostly target the coastal waters of the emerald coast in Florida and small alpine trout streams in Colorado.
Our values
1. Do or Do Not, There is No Try.
A famous quote from Yoda, the wise Jedi Master from the Star Wars Saga. It carries profound meaning that aligns with both the spirit of fly fishing and the philosophy of achieving mastery and success in any endeavor.
2. We are ALL Private Land Owners.
As citizens of this great nation, the rights we enjoy come with the responsibility to act as stewards of our natural resources. It's our duty to practice conservation so we can pass on the sport of fly fishing to future generations, just as it was passed down to us.
3. Be Like Water, My Friend.
A philosophy made famous by Bruce Lee emphasizes the ability to adapt, flow, and respond to any situation with flexibility and resilience. It teaches us to stay calm and composed, much like a river that flows steadily and with resilience in the face of challenges and challenges.
