Current River Conditions
The current river conditions on the South Platte River at Deckers are as follows:
Air temperature High/Low: 45 to 71 F
Water clarity: Run-off
Flow rate: 139 CFS
The River has seen a drop in CFS and discharge rate since the middle of April. Falling from a high of over 200 CFS. Run-off has started and the river is clouded with silt. We use higher-vis flies during this time. Pat Dorsey recommends a Nuke egg with a black beauty dropped 18-24 inches from the leader fly. For dries, we are seeing BWO hatches.
May Fly Hatches
May is a great time for fly fishing in the South Platte River at Deckers. During this time of year, anglers can expect to encounter several different fly hatches. Some of the common fly hatches in May include caddisflies, blue-winged olives, and pale morning duns.
